The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was riding a grey mule when he passed by a walled garden belonging to Banu Najjar. There he came upon a grave whose occupant was being punished, and the mule shied. He said, "Were it not that you would cease burying your dead, I would have prayed to Allah to make you hear the punishment of the grave."
حدثنا حسن يعني ابن موسى حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت وحميد
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان على بغلة شهباء فمر على حائط لبني النجار فإذا هو بقبر يعذب صاحبه فحامت البغلة فقال لولا أن لا تدافنوا لدعوت الله أن يسمعكم عذاب القبر
