Bilal was late for the dawn prayer, so the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "What kept you?"Bilal replied, "I passed by Fatimah while she was grinding grain and her child was crying. I said to her, 'If you wish, I will take over the grinding for you and you tend to the child, or if you prefer, I will tend to the child and you continue with the grinding.' She said, 'I am gentler with my son than you are.' That is what kept me."The Prophet ﷺ said, "You showed her compassion, may Allah show compassion to you."
حدثنا عبد الصمد حدثنا عمار يعني أبا هاشم صاحب البغوت
أن بلالا بطأ عن صلاة الصبح فقال له النبي ﷺ ما حبسك فقال مررت بفاطمة وهي تطحن والصبي يبكي فقلت لها إن شئت كفيتك الرحا وكفيتني الصبي وإن شئت كفيتك الصبي وكفيتني الرحا فقالت أنا أرفق بابني منك فذاك حبسني قال فرحمتها رحمك الله
