The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Umar a robe of fine silk. Umar then met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "You have sent me a robe of silk, yet you have said about it what you have said."He replied, "I did not send it to you for you to wear. I only sent it to you so that you might sell it or otherwise benefit from it."
حدثنا هشام بن سعيد الطالقاني حدثنا أبو عوانة عن عبد الرحمن الأصم
بعث رسول الله ﷺ إلى عمر بجبة سندس قال فلقي عمر رسول الله ﷺ فقال بعثت إلي بجبة سندس وقد قلت فيها ما قلت قال إني لم أبعث بها إليك لتلبسها إنما بعثت بها إليك لتبيعها أو تستنفع بها
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Awana is Al-Waddah Al-Yashkuri. The hadith was narrated by Bukhari 3/83 in Trade, on trading in what is disliked to wear, Muslim 3/1639 no. 2068 in Clothing, on the prohibition of gold and silk, Abu Dawud 4/46 no. 4040 similarly, and Nasai 8/200 no. 5303 in Adornment, mentioning the abrogation of that.
