The Prophet ﷺ was on a journey during Ramadan when a vessel was brought to him. He placed it on his hand, and when the people saw this, they broke their fast.
حدثنا روح بن عبادة حدثنا هشام بن حسان عن حميد الطويل
أن النبي ﷺ كان في سفر في رمضان فأتي بإناء فوضعه على يده فلما رآه الناس أفطروا
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated the hadith, 4/186, no. 1948, Fath al-Bari, from Ibn Abbas, in the chapter on fasting, on breaking the fast while traveling. Muslim also narrated it similarly, 1/785, no. 1114. Tirmidhi narrated it, 3/80, no. 710, in the chapter on fasting, on what has been said regarding the disapproval of fasting while traveling, and he said, hasan sahih.
