Affan reported to us, Hammad reported to us, Thabit reported from Anas that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took up a sword on the day of Uhud and asked, "Who will take this sword?"A group of men reached for it, gazing at it eagerly, but he said, "Who will take it with its rightful due?"The men hesitated, then Abu Dujanah Simak said, "I will take it with its rightful due."So he took it and split open the heads of the polytheists with it.
Its isnad is sahih. Muslim narrated it with similar wording, 4/1917, no. 2470, and Hakim narrated it with similar meaning in Marifat al-Sahabah, 3/203, grading it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Haythami likewise graded it sahih in al-Majma, 6/109, and attributed it to Bazzar.
