The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would step down from the pulpit on Friday, and a man would speak to him about a need, so he would talk with him. Then he would proceed to his place of prayer and pray.
Its isnad is sahih. The hadith was reported by Abu Dawud 1/292, no. 1120, in the book of prayer, chapter on the imam speaking after he descends, where he said, "It is not known from Thabit, and it is something Jareer transmitted alone from him." It was also reported by Nasai 3/110, no. 1419, in the book of Jumuah, chapter on speaking and standing after descending, and by Hakim 1/290, who graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
