Umm Sulaym sent me with a basket of fresh dates to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but I did not find him at home. He had gone out nearby to a freedman of his who had invited him and prepared food for him.So I went to him and found him eating, and he invited me to eat with him. The man had prepared for him a dish of bread soaked in broth with meat and gourd, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was fond of gourd. I began gathering the pieces of gourd and bringing them close to him.When he finished eating, he returned to his home, and I placed the basket before him. He began to eat and distribute the dates until he had given away the last of them.

بعثت معي أم سليم بمكتل فيه رطب إلى رسول الله ﷺ فلم أجده وخرج قريبا إلى مولى له دعاه صنع له طعاما قال فأتيته فإذا هو يأكل فدعاني لآكل معه قال وصنع له ثريدا بلحم وقرع قال وإذا هو يعجبه القرع قال فجعلت أجمعه وأدنيه منه قال فلما طعم رجع إلى منزله قال ووضعت المكتل بين يديه قال فجعل يأكل ويقسم حتى فرغ من آخره
