The call to prayer was made, so everyone whose house was close to the mosque got up to perform ablution, while those whose homes were far away remained behind. A stone basin was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but it was too small for him to spread his palms inside it, so he kept his fingers together. The rest of the people then performed ablution from it.Humayd said that Anas was asked, "How many were they?"He replied, "Eighty or more."
حدثنا ابن أبي عدي حدثنا حميد ويزيد أخبرنا حميد المعنى
نودي بالصلاة فقام كل قريب الدار من المسجد وبقي من كان أهله نائي الدار فأتي رسول الله ﷺ بمخضب من حجارة فصغر أن يبسط أكفه فيه قال فضم أصابعه قال فتوضأ بقيتهم قال حميد وسئل أنس كم كانوا قال ثمانين أو زيادة
Its isnad is sahih, from his route, and the hadith was narrated by Bukhari 6/581 no. 3576, Fath al-Bari, in the book of merits, signs of prophethood, and Muslim 4/1783 no. 2279, in the book of virtues, miracles of the Prophet ﷺ, and Tirmidhi 5/596 no. 3631, who said it is hasan sahih, and Nasai 1/60 no. 76, in the book of purification, performing wudu from a vessel.
