Anas was asked about the night prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He replied, "Whenever we wished to see him praying during the night, we would see him praying, and whenever we wished to see him sleeping, we would see him sleeping. He would fast so much in a month that we would say he never breaks his fast, and he would go without fasting so much that we would say he never fasts."
Its isnad is sahih. It is found in Bukhari 14/3 no. 1130, Fath, in tahajjud, "The Prophet's night prayer," and in Tirmidhi 3/131 no. 769, in fasting, "What has been said about fasting continuously." He said, hasan sahih.
