We captured donkeys on the day of Khaybar, and the pots were boiling with their meat. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is this?"We replied, "Donkeys we captured."He asked, "Wild or domestic?"We said, "No, domestic."He said, "Turn them over."So we turned them over.
حدثنا وكيع عن يونس حدثنا أبو الوداك جبر بن نوف
أصبنا حمرا يوم خيبر فكانت القدور تغلي بها فقال النبي ﷺ ما هذه فقلنا حمر أصبناها فقال وحشية أو أهلية قال قلنا لا بل أهلية قال اكفئوها قال فكفأناها
Its chain is sahih. Bukhari 4/116 narrated the hadith in the chapter on the obligation of khumus, on what one obtains of food, Nasai 6/203 no. 4339 in the chapter on hunting, on the prohibition of eating the meat of donkeys, Ibn Majah 2/1064 no. 3192, and Bayhaqi 9/329, 330 in the chapter on sacrifices, on what has been said about eating the meat of domestic donkeys.
