We stopped at a place and a woman came to us and said, "The chief of the tribe has been stung. Is there anyone among you who can perform ruqyah?"A man got up and went with her, though we never thought he knew anything about ruqyah. He recited over the chief, who recovered, and they gave him thirty sheep. I think he also said that they gave us milk to drink.When he came back to us, we asked him, "Did you actually know how to perform ruqyah?"He replied, "No, I only recited al-Fatihah over him."I told them, "Do not do anything with the sheep until we come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."When we arrived, we went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I mentioned the matter to him. He said, "How did he know it was a ruqyah? Divide the sheep and give me a share with you."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا هشام عن محمد عن أخيه معبد بن سيرين
نزلنا منزلا فأتتنا امرأة فقالت إن سيد الحي سليم فهل منكم من راق قال فقام معها رجل ما كنا نظنه يحسن رقية فانطلق معها فرقاه فبرئ فأعطوه ثلاثين شاة قال وأحسبه قد قال وأسقونا لبنا فلما رجع إلينا قلنا له أكنت تحسن رقية قال لا إنما رقيته بفاتحة الكتاب قال فقلت لهم لا تحدثوا فيها شيئا حتى نأتي رسول الله ﷺ فلما قدمنا أتينا رسول الله ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له فقال ما كان يدريه أنها رقية اقسموا واضربوا بسهمي معكم
