The Prophet ﷺ mentioned a man from among those who came before, or he said, "from among those who lived before you," then he said something meaning that Allah had granted him wealth and children.He said, "When death approached him, he asked his sons, 'What kind of father have I been to you?'They replied, 'The best of fathers.'He said, 'But he had never stored up any good with Allah.'"Qatada explained this as meaning he had never sent forth any good deeds to Allah, "and if Allah takes hold of him, He will punish him. So when I die, burn me until I become charcoal, then crush me," or he said, "grind me, then when there is a strong wind, scatter me in it."The Prophet of Allah said, "He took their pledges on this, and they did it, by my Lord. When he died, they burned him, then crushed him or ground him, then scattered him on a windy day.Allah said to him, 'Be,' and there he was, a man standing.Allah asked, 'My servant, what made you do what you did?'He answered, 'My Lord, fear of You,' or 'dread of You.'Nothing saved him from that except that He had mercy on him." And another time he said, "Nothing saved him besides that except that He had mercy on him."He said, I narrated this to Abu Uthman, and he said, "I heard this from Salman more than once, except that he added, 'Then scatter me in the sea,'" or as he narrated it.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا معتمر قال سمعت أبي حدثنا قتادة عن عقبة بن عبد الغافر
عن النبي ﷺ أنه ذكر رجلا فيمن سلف أو قال فيمن كان قبلكم ثم ذكر كلمة معناها أعطاه الله مالا وولدا قال فلما حضره الموت قال لبنيه أي أب كنت لكم قالوا خير أب قال فإنه لم يبتئر عند الله خيرا قط قال ففسرها قتادة لم يدخر عند الله خيرا وإن يقدر الله عليه يعذبه فإذا أنا مت فأحرقوني حتى إذا صرت فحما فاسحقوني أو قال فاسهكوني ثم إذا كان ريح عاصف فأذروني فيها قال نبي الله فأخذ مواثيقهم على ذلك قال ففعلوا ذلك وربي فلما مات أحرقوه ثم سحقوه أو سهكوه ثم ذروه في يوم عاصف قال فقال الله له كن فإذا هو رجل قائم قال الله أي عبدي ما حملك على أن فعلت ما فعلت فقال يا رب مخافتك أو فرقا منك قال فما تلافاه أن رحمه وقال مرة أخرى فما تلافاه غيرها أن رحمه قال فحدثت بها أبا عثمان فقال سمعت هذا من سلمان غير مرة غير أنه زاد ثم أذروني في البحر أو كما حدث
