Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There was a man among those who lived before you whom Allah had blessed abundantly with wealth and children. When death approached him, he called his sons and asked, 'What kind of father have I been to you?'They replied, 'The best of fathers.'He said, 'But by Allah, I have never stored up any good deed with Allah. So when I die, burn me until I become charcoal, then grind me up, then scatter me on a day,' meaning a windy day."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "He made them swear binding oaths to do this, by my Lord, and by my Lord they did it. When he died, they burned him until he became charcoal, then they ground him up, then they scattered him on a windy day. His Lord said to him, 'Be,' and there he stood, a man on his feet. His Lord asked him, 'What made you do what you did?'He answered, 'My Lord, I feared Your punishment.'By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, nothing met him in return for that except that Allah forgave him."Hasan once said, "Nothing met him in return for that except that Allah forgave him."Qatada said, "A man who feared the punishment of Allah, so Allah saved him through his fear."
