Bilal came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with some dates, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Where did you get these from?"Bilal replied, "I had some poor-quality dates, so I sold them and bought these with the proceeds."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Oh no, this is the very essence of usury, the very essence of usury. Do not do this. Instead, sell your dates for whatever price you wish, then use the money to buy whatever you like."
حدثنا هشام بن سعيد قال حدثنا معاوية بن أبي سلام الحبشي قال سمعت يحيى بن أبي كثير يقول سمعت عقبة بن عبد الغافر يقول
جاء بلال إلى رسول الله ﷺ بتمر فقال من أين لك هذا فقال كان عندي تمر رديء فبعته بهذا فقال النبي ﷺ أوه عين الربا عين الربا فلا تقربنه ولكن بع تمرك بما شئت ثم اشتر به ما بدا لك

Its isnad is sahih. Muawiya bin Salam bin Abu Salam, Abu Salam Himsi Habashi Dimashqi, is trustworthy, and Uqba bin Abdul-Ghafir Azdi, Abu Nahar, is also trustworthy.The hadith was narrated by Bukhari 3/133 in the Book of Agency, "If the agent sells something," and by Muslim 3/1215 number 1594 in the Book of Muzaraah, "Selling food," and by Nasai 7/273 number 4558 in the Book of Sales, "Selling dates for dates with an excess," and by Darimi 2/335 number 2577. All of them narrated it from Bilal except Darimi, whose version is like Ahmad's.
