A group of the Ansar gathered and said, "He has favored others over us." This reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he assembled them and addressed them, saying, "People of the Ansar, were you not lowly, and Allah honored you?"They replied, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth."He asked, "Were you not astray, and Allah guided you?"They replied, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth."He asked, "Were you not poor, and Allah enriched you?"They replied, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth."Then he said, "Will you not answer me? Will you not say, 'You came to us as a fugitive and we sheltered you, you came to us in fear and we gave you safety'? Are you not content that the people go off with sheep and cattle while you go off with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to take him into your homes? If the people were to travel one valley or mountain pass and you were to travel another, I would travel your valley or your pass. Were it not for the Hijrah, I would be a man of the Ansar. After me, you will face others being preferred over you, so be patient until you meet me at the Pool."
حدثنا إبراهيم بن خالد حدثنا رباح عن معمر عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح
اجتمع أناس من الأنصار فقالوا آثر علينا غيرنا فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ فجمعهم ثم خطبهم فقال يا معشر الأنصار ألم تكونوا أذلة فأعزكم الله قالوا صدق الله ورسوله قال ألم تكونوا ضلالا فهداكم الله قالوا صدق الله ورسوله قال ألم تكونوا فقراء فأغناكم الله قالوا صدق الله ورسوله ثم قال ألا تجيبونني ألا تقولون أتيتنا طريدا فآويناك وأتيتنا خائفا فآمناك ألا ترضون أن يذهب الناس بالشاء والبقران يعني البقر وتذهبون برسول الله ﷺ فتدخلونه بيوتكم لو أن الناس سلكوا واديا أو شعبة وسلكتم واديا أو شعبة سلكت واديكم أو شعبتكم لولا الهجرة لكنت امرأ من الأنصار وإنكم ستلقون بعدي أثرة فاصبروا حتى تلقوني على الحوض
