We used to take turns staying overnight with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in case he had a need or some matter arose during the night for which he might send us. Many people would volunteer for this and take their turns, so we would converse together. One night, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us and said, "What is this private conversation? Did I not forbid you from holding private conversations?"We said, "We repent to Allah, Prophet of Allah. We were only speaking about the Antichrist out of fear of him."He said, "Shall I not inform you of what I fear for you more than the Antichrist?"We said, "Yes, please do."He said, "Hidden polytheism, that a man stands to perform an act of worship for the sake of another man's regard."

كنا نتناوب رسول الله ﷺ فنبيت عنده تكون له الحاجة أو يطرقه أمر من الليل فيبعثنا فيكثر المحتسبون وأهل النوب فكنا نتحدث فخرج علينا رسول الله ﷺ من الليل فقال ما هذه النجوى ألم أنهكم عن النجوى قال قلنا نتوب إلى الله يا نبي الله إنما كنا في ذكر المسيح فرقا منه فقال ألا أخبركم بما هو أخوف عليكم من المسيح عندي قال قلنا بلى قال الشرك الخفي أن يقوم الرجل يعمل لمكان رجل
