Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla reported,

My father used to spend evenings in conversation with Ali. Ali would wear summer clothes in winter and winter clothes in summer, so it was said to my father, "If only you would ask him about it."So he asked him, and Ali said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for me on the day of Khaybar while I was suffering from sore eyes. I said, 'Messenger of Allah, my eyes are inflamed.' He spat into my eyes and said, 'Allah, remove from him heat and cold.' I have not felt heat or cold since."Ali continued, "He also said, 'I shall surely send a man whom Allah and His Messenger love, and who loves Allah and His Messenger, one who does not flee.' The people stretched their necks hoping for it, but he sent Ali ."

حدثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي ليلى عن المنهال بن عمرو

عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى قال

كان أبي يسمر مع علي فكان علي يلبس ثياب الصيف في الشتاء وثياب الشتاء في الصيف فقيل له لو سألته فسأله فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ بعث إلي وأنا أرمد يوم خيبر فقلت يا رسول الله إني رمد فتفل في عيني وقال اللهم أذهب عنه الحر والبرد فما وجدت حرا ولا بردا بعد قال وقال لأبعثن رجلا يحبه الله ورسوله ويحب الله ورسوله ليس بفرار قال فتشرف لها الناس قال فبعث عليا رضي الله عنه
