I asked Fudayl whether he traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, "I believe he did trace it back."He said, "Whoever says when he goes out to prayer, 'O Allah, I ask You by the right of those who ask of You, and by the right of my walking, for I have not gone out in arrogance, nor in pride, nor for show, nor for reputation. I have gone out to avoid Your wrath and to seek Your pleasure. I ask You to save me from the Fire and to forgive me my sins, for none forgives sins but You,' Allah will appoint seventy thousand angels to seek forgiveness for him, and Allah will turn His face toward him until he finishes his prayer."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا فضيل بن مرزوق عن عطية العوفي
فقلت لفضيل رفعه قال أحسبه قد رفعه قال من قال حين يخرج إلى الصلاة اللهم إني أسألك بحق السائلين عليك وبحق ممشاي فإني لم أخرج أشرا ولا بطرا ولا رياء ولا سمعة خرجت اتقاء سخطك وابتغاء مرضاتك أسألك أن تنقذني من النار وأن تغفر لي ذنوبي إنه لا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت وكل الله به سبعين ألف ملك يستغفرون له وأقبل الله عليه بوجهه حتى يفرغ من صلاته
