Khudri reported that Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, I heard so-and-so speaking well of you. He mentioned that you gave him two dinars."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "But so-and-so does not say that, nor does he praise me for it, though I gave him somewhere between ten and a hundred." Or he said, "up to two hundred. One of them will come to me with a request, and I give it to him, and he walks off with it tucked under his arm, when it is nothing for them but fire."Umar asked, "Messenger of Allah, then why do you give it to them?"He answered, "They insist on asking me, and Allah refuses to let me be miserly."
حدثنا عثمان بن محمد وسمعته أنا من عثمان حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن عطية عن أبي سعيد فذكر نحوه
Its isnad is hasan. It includes Atiya Awfi, but it is like the one before it. Uthman bin Muhammad is Ibn Abu Shayba, the author of Musannaf, the trustworthy and reliable memorizer of hadith.
