We were sitting and writing down what we heard from the Prophet ﷺ when he came out to us and asked, "What is this you are writing?"We replied, "What we hear from you."He said, "A book alongside the Book of Allah?"We said, "Whatever we hear."He said, "Write the Book of Allah. Keep the Book of Allah pure. A book other than the Book of Allah? Keep the Book of Allah pure," or he said, "unmixed."So we gathered everything we had written in one place and burned it with fire.We asked, "Messenger of Allah, may we speak about you?"He said, "Yes, speak about me, there is no harm in it. But whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his seat in the Fire."We then asked, "Messenger of Allah, may we speak about the Children of Israil?"He said, "Yes, speak about the Children of Israil, there is no harm in it. For you will not relate anything about them without something even more astonishing having occurred among them."
حدثني إسحاق بن عيسى حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن زيد عن أبيه عن عطاء بن يسار
كنا قعودا نكتب ما نسمع من النبي ﷺ فخرج علينا فقال ما هذا تكتبون فقلنا ما نسمع منك فقال أكتاب مع كتاب الله فقلنا ما نسمع فقال اكتبوا كتاب الله أمحضوا كتاب الله أكتاب غير كتاب الله أمحضوا كتاب الله أو خلصوه قال فجمعنا ما كتبنا في صعيد واحد ثم أحرقناه بالنار قلنا أي رسول الله أنتحدث عنك قال نعم تحدثوا عني ولا حرج ومن كذب علي متعمدا فليتبوأ مقعده من النار قال فقلنا يا رسول الله أنتحدث عن بني إسرائيل قال نعم تحدثوا عن بني إسرائيل ولا حرج فإنكم لا تحدثوا عنهم بشيء إلا وقد كان فيهم أعجب منه
