Umar bin Khattab reported,

"Do not sell gold for gold or silver for silver except in equal measure. Do not give one a greater value over the other, and do not sell any of it on credit for cash on hand. I fear for you the rama, and the rama is usury."A man related this hadith to Ibn Umar from Abu Saeed Khudri, who narrated it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. No sooner had he finished speaking than Ibn Umar took him to Abu Saeed, and I was with him.Ibn Umar said, "This man related to me a hadith from you, claiming that you narrate it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Did you really hear it?"Abu Saeed replied, "My eyes saw and my ears heard. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Do not sell gold for gold or silver for silver except in equal measure. Do not give one a greater value over the other, and do not sell any of it on credit for cash on hand.'"

حدثنا إسماعيل بن إبراهيم حدثنا أيوب عن نافع قال

قال عمر

لا تبيعوا الذهب بالذهب والورق بالورق إلا مثلا بمثل ولا تشفوا بعضها على بعض ولا تبيعوا شيئا غائبا منها بناجز فإني أخاف عليكم الرماء والرماء الربا قال فحدث رجل ابن عمر هذا الحديث عن أبي سعيد الخدري يحدثه عن رسول الله ﷺ فما تم مقالته حتى دخل به على أبي سعيد وأنا معه فقال إن هذا حدثني عنك حديثا يزعم أنك تحدثه عن رسول الله ﷺ أفسمعته فقال بصر عيني وسمع أذني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا تبيعوا الذهب بالذهب ولا الورق بالورق إلا مثلا بمثل ولا تشفوا بعضها على بعض ولا تبيعوا شيئا غائبا منها بناجز
