Delegations came to Muawiya, and I was among them along with Abu Hurairah, during Ramadan. We would prepare food for one another, and Abu Hurairah would frequently invite us. Hashim said, he would frequently invite us to his lodging.I said to myself, why don't I prepare some food and invite them to my lodging? So I ordered food to be prepared, and I met Abu Hurairah in the evening.I said, "Abu Hurairah, the invitation tonight is at my place."He replied, "Have you beaten me to it?"Hashim said, I answered, "Yes."So I invited them, and they came to my place. Abu Hurairah said, "Shall I tell you a hadith from your own history, company of the Ansar?" Then he mentioned the conquest of Mecca.He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ advanced and entered Mecca. He sent Zubayr on one flank and Khalid on the other flank, and he sent Abu Ubayda with the unarmored troops, and they took the bottom of the valley while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with his battalion.Quraysh had assembled their rabble and said, "Let us send these forward. If they gain anything, we will share with them, and if they are struck down, we will give whatever is asked of us."Abu Hurairah said, the Prophet looked over and saw me and said, "Abu Hurairah."I said, "At your service, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Call out to the Ansar for me, and let none come to me but an Ansari."So I called out to them, and they came and gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "Do you see the rabble of Quraysh and their followers?" Then he gestured with his hands, one over the other, indicating mowing them down, and said, "Until you meet me at Safa."Abu Hurairah said, so we set out, and any one of us who wished to kill any of them could kill whomever he wished, and not one of them directed anything against us.Abu Sufyan said, "Messenger of Allah, the green of Quraysh has been cut down. There is no Quraysh after this day."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever closes his door is safe, and whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe."So the people closed their doors. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached the Black Stone and touched it, then he circumambulated the House. In his hand was a bow which he held by its curved end. During his circumambulation he came upon an idol beside the House which they used to worship, and he began stabbing it in the eye with the bow, saying, "Truth has come and falsehood has perished" [Isra 17:81].Then he came to Safa and ascended it to a place from which he could look upon the House. He raised his hands and began remembering Allah with whatever He willed him to mention, and supplicating Him, while the Ansar were below him. They began saying to one another, "As for the man, longing for his hometown has overtaken him, and tenderness toward his kinsfolk."Abu Hurairah said, then revelation came, and when it came, it was not hidden from us, for no one would raise his eyes toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until it was concluded.Hashim said, when the revelation was concluded, he raised his head and said, "Company of the Ansar, did you say, 'As for the man, longing for his hometown has overtaken him, and tenderness toward his kinsfolk'?"They said, "We said that, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Then what is my name? No indeed, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I have migrated to Allah and to you. Life is your life and death is your death."So they came to him weeping and saying, "By Allah, we did not say what we said except out of jealous attachment to Allah and His Messenger."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah and His Messenger believe you and accept your excuse."
حدثنا بهز وهاشم قالا حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة عن ثابت قال هاشم قال حدثني ثابت البناني
وفدت وفود إلى معاوية أنا فيهم وأبو هريرة في رمضان فجعل بعضنا يصنع لبعض الطعام قال وكان أبو هريرة يكثر ما يدعونا قال هاشم يكثر أن يدعونا إلى رحله قال فقلت ألا أصنع طعاما فأدعوهم إلى رحلي قال فأمرت بطعام يصنع ولقيت أبا هريرة من العشاء قال قلت يا أبا هريرة الدعوة عندي الليلة قال أسبقتني قال هاشم قلت نعم قال فدعوتهم فهم عندي قال أبو هريرة ألا أعلمكم بحديث من حديثكم يا معاشر الأنصار قال فذكر فتح مكة قال أقبل رسول الله ﷺ فدخل مكة قال فبعث الزبير على إحدى المجنبتين وبعث خالدا على المجنبة الأخرى وبعث أبا عبيدة على الحسر فأخذوا بطن الوادي ورسول الله ﷺ في كتيبته قال وقد وبشت قريش أوباشها قال فقالوا نقدم هؤلاء فإن كان لهم شيء كنا معهم وإن أصيبوا أعطينا الذي سئلنا قال فقال أبو هريرة فنظر فرآني فقال يا أبا هريرة فقلت لبيك رسول الله قال فقال اهتف لي بالأنصار ولا يأتيني إلا أنصاري فهتفت بهم فجاءوا فأطافوا برسول الله ﷺ فقال ترون إلى أوباش قريش وأتباعهم ثم قال بيديه إحداهما على الأخرى حصدا حتى توافوني بالصفا قال فقال أبو هريرة فانطلقنا فما يشاء أحد منا أن يقتل منهم ما شاء وما أحد يوجه إلينا منهم شيئا قال فقال أبو سفيان يا رسول الله أبيحت خضراء قريش لا قريش بعد اليوم قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ من أغلق بابه فهو آمن ومن دخل دار أبي سفيان فهو آمن قال فغلق الناس أبوابهم قال فأقبل رسول الله ﷺ إلى الحجر فاستلمه ثم طاف بالبيت قال وفي يده قوس أخذ بسية القوس قال فأتى في طوافه على صنم إلى جنب يعبدونه قال فجعل يطعن بها في عينه ويقول {جاء الحق وزهق الباطل} قال ثم أتى الصفا فعلاه حيث ينظر إلى البيت فرفع يديه فجعل يذكر الله بما شاء أن يذكره ويدعوه قال والأنصار تحته قال يقول بعضهم لبعض أما الرجل فأدركته رغبة في قريته ورأفة بعشيرته قال أبو هريرة وجاء الوحي وكان إذا جاء لم يخف علينا فليس أحد من الناس يرفع طرفه إلى رسول الله ﷺ حتى يقضى قال هاشم فلما قضي الوحي رفع رأسه ثم قال يا معاشر الأنصار أقلتم أما الرجل فأدركته رغبة في قريته ورأفة بعشيرته قالوا قلنا ذلك يا رسول الله قال فما اسمي إذا كلا إني عبد الله ورسوله هاجرت إلى الله وإليكم فالمحيا محياكم والممات مماتكم قال فأقبلوا إليه يبكون ويقولون والله ما قلنا الذي قلنا إلا الضن بالله ورسوله قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ فإن الله ورسوله يصدقانكم ويعذرانكم
