The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave a parable comparing the miser and the charitable giver to two men wearing iron coats of mail, with their hands fastened tightly to their breasts and collarbones. Whenever the charitable one gives in charity, the coat expands and loosens from him until it covers his fingertips and erases his footprints. But whenever the miser intends to give in charity, every ring contracts and clings to its place.Abu Hurairah said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gesturing with his fingers inside his garment. If you had seen him, he was trying to widen it, but it would not widen."
حدثنا عبد الملك بن عمرو حدثنا إبراهيم بن نافع عن الحسن بن مسلم عن طاوس
ضرب رسول الله ﷺ مثل البخيل والمتصدق كمثل رجلين عليهما جبتان من حديد قد اضطرت أيديهما إلى ثدييهما وتراقيهما فجعل المتصدق كلما تصدق بصدقة انبسطت عنه حتى تغشى أنامله وتعفو أثره وجعل البخيل كلما هم بصدقة قلصت كل حلقة وأخذت بمكانها قال أبو هريرة قال فأنا رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يقول بإصبعيه في جبته فلو رأيته يوسعها ولا توسع
