The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, I would dearly love to fight in the path of Allah and be killed, then be brought back to life and be killed, then be brought back to life and be killed, then be brought back to life and be killed. Were it not that it would cause hardship to the believers, I would never stay behind from any expedition setting out or going to fight in the path of Allah. But I do not have the means to provide mounts for them, nor do they have the means to follow me, and it would not sit well with their hearts to remain behind after me or stay seated when I have gone."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا محمد عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ والذي نفس محمد بيده لوددت أن أقاتل في سبيل الله فأقتل ثم أحيا ثم أقتل ثم أحيا ثم أقتل ثم أحيا ثم أقتل ولولا أن أشق على المؤمنين ما تخلفت خلف سرية تخرج أو تغزو في سبيل الله ولكن لا أجد سعة فأحملهم ولا يجدون سعة فيتبعوني ولا تطيب أنفسهم أن يتخلفوا بعدي أو يقعدوا بعدي
