Whenever food was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, he would ask about it. If it was charity, he would not eat from it, but if it was a gift, he would eat.

أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا أتي بطعام سأل عنه فإن كان صدقة لم يأكل وإن كان هدية أكل
