The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let me not find any one of you, when a hadith from me reaches him while he is reclining on his couch, saying, 'Recite to me a Quranic verse instead.' Whatever good comes to you from me, whether I actually said it or not, I do say it. But whatever evil comes to you attributed to me, I do not speak evil."
حدثنا سريج قال حدثنا أبو معشر عن سعيد
قال رسول الله ﷺ لأعرفن أحدا منكم أتاه عني حديث وهو متكئ في أريكته فيقول اتلوا به علي قرآنا ما جاءكم عني من خير قلته أو لم أقله فأنا أقول وما أتاكم من شر فإني لا أقول الشر
Its chain of transmission is daif because of Abu Mashar, and his hadith is only considered hasan in matters of religious exhortation, while this hadith concerns the pillars of Islam. However, the hadith is sahih through another route. See something similar to it in Abu Dawud 3050, 4604, and Tirmidhi 2663, where he said, hasan sahih.
