Jibreel came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I came to you last night, but nothing prevented me from entering upon you except a dog that was in the house and a figured image on a curtain hanging at the door."They looked, and there was a puppy belonging to Hasan or Husayn under a piece of furniture of theirs. He then ordered that the dog be taken out, that the head of the image be cut off so that it would resemble a tree, and that the curtain be cut into two cushions to be tossed about.
حدثنا وكيع عن يونس بن أبي إسحاق عن مجاهد
جاء جبريل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال أتيتك البارحة فما منعني من الدخول عليك إلا كلب كان في البيت وتمثال صورة في ستر كان على الباب قال فنظروا فإذا جرو للحسن أو الحسين كان تحت نضد لهم قال فأمر بالكلب فأخرج وأن يقطع رأس الصورة حتى تكون مثل الشجرة ويجعل الستر منتبذتين

Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in "Clothing," in the chapter on images, and Tirmidhi in "Seeking Permission," in the chapter on what has been reported that the angels do not enter a house in which there is an image, in wording close to it. Muslim has something similar to it in "Clothing," in the chapter on the prohibition of depicting images of animals, and Nasai in "Hunting," in the chapter on the angels refraining from entering a house in which there is a dog. It has already been mentioned in similar wording at 9040.
