When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose at night to pray, he would say the takbir, then he would say, "Glory be to You, Allah, and praise. Blessed is Your name, exalted is Your majesty, and there is no god but You."Then he would say, "There is no god but Allah," three times.Then he would say, "Allah is the greatest, supremely great," three times."I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan, from his prompting, his arrogance, and his poetry."Then he would begin reciting.
حدثنا عبد السلام بن مطهر حدثنا جعفر عن علي بن علي الرفاعي عن أبي المتوكل الناجي
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا قام من الليل كبر ثم يقول سبحانك اللهم وبحمدك وتبارك اسمك وتعالى جدك ولا إله غيرك ثم يقول لا إله إلا الله ثلاثا ثم يقول الله أكبر كبيرا ثلاثا أعوذ بالله السميع العليم من الشيطان الرجيم من همزه ونفخه ونفثه ثم يقرأ
Sourcing, its isnad is hasan. Tirmidhi narrated it in the chapters on prayer, in the chapter on what is said upon beginning the prayer, hadith 242, from the hadith of Jafar bin Sulayman with this wording, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith 467, and Ibn Majah also narrated it, hadith 804.
