Kabsha, who was married to the son of Abu Qatada, reported that Abu Qatada once came in, and she poured out water for him to perform ablution. A cat came and drank from it, and he tilted the vessel for it until it had drunk its fill.Kabsha said, "He saw me watching him, so he asked, 'Are you surprised, my niece?'"I said, "Yes."He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'They are not impure. They are among those who go around among you, males and females alike.'"
حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة القعنبي عن مالك عن إسحق بن عبد الله بن أبي طلحة عن حميدة بنت عبيد بن رفاعة
وكانت تحت ابن أبي قتادة أن أبا قتادة دخل فسكبت له وضوءا فجاءت هرة فشربت منه فأصغى لها الإناء حتى شربت قالت كبشة فرآني أنظر إليه فقال أتعجبين يا ابنة أخي فقلت نعم فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ قال إنها ليست بنجس إنها من الطوافين عليكم والطوافات
[Its isnad is sahih] Narrated by Tirmidhi, Tahara, chapter on what has been said regarding the leftover water of a cat, hadith no. 92. Also narrated by Nasai, hadith nos. 68 and 341, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 367, from the hadith of Malik. It is also found in the Muwatta (narration of Yahya) 1/22, 23, and (narration of Qanabi) p. 45, 46. Tirmidhi said, "hasan sahih." Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 104, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 121, and Hakim, 1/160, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
