I saw the Prophet ﷺ raise his hands to the level of his ears when he opened the prayer. Then I came to them and saw them raising their hands to their chests when opening the prayer, and they were wearing hooded cloaks and outer garments.
حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا شريك عن عاصم بن كليب عن أبيه
رأيت النبي ﷺ حين افتتح الصلاة رفع يديه حيال أذنيه قال ثم أتيتهم فرأيتهم يرفعون أيديهم إلى صدورهم في افتتاح الصلاة وعليهم برانس وأكسية
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Baghawi related it in Sharh al-Sunnah, no. 564, from the hadith of Abu Dawud, with the same wording. Sharik the judge's hadith is hasan, but he was known to conceal defects in his chains of transmission, and I did not find an explicit statement that he actually heard this hadith directly.
