The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah and stand close to it." He then continued with the same meaning.
حدثنا محمد بن العلاء حدثنا أبو خالد عن ابن عجلان عن زيد بن أسلم
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا صلى أحدكم فليصل إلى سترة وليدن منها ثم ساق معناه
[Sahih] Ibn Majah reported it in Iqamat as-Salawat, chapter "Fend off (interruptions in prayer) as much as you can," 954, from Muhammad bin Ala, through him. See also the preceding hadith.
