I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever leads the people in prayer and observes its proper time, the reward is for him and for them. Whoever falls short in any of that, the burden is upon him, not upon them."
حدثنا سليمان بن داود المهري حدثنا ابن وهب أخبرني يحيى بن أيوب عن عبد الرحمن بن حرملة عن أبي علي الهمداني قال سمعت
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من أم الناس فأصاب الوقت فله ولهم ومن انتقص من ذلك شيئا فعليه ولا عليهم
[Its isnad is sahih] Ibn Majah narrated it in "Iqamat as-Salawat", chapter on what is obligatory upon the imam, no. 983, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Harmala with this wording, and Ibn Khuzayma declared it sahih, no. 1513, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 374, and Hakim, 1/210, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
