The prayer was called while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in private conversation at the side of the mosque, and he did not rise to pray until the people had fallen asleep.
حدثنا مسدد حدثنا عبد الوارث عن عبد العزيز بن صهيب
أقيمت الصلاة ورسول الله ﷺ نجي في جانب المسجد فما قام إلى الصلاة حتى نام القوم
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan, chapter "The Imam Being Occupied by a Need After the Iqamah," no. 642, and Muslim in the Book of Menstruation, chapter "Evidence That the Sleep of One Sitting Does Not Invalidate wudu," no. 376, from the hadith of Abdul-Warith bin Saeed through this chain.
