Aisha said, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ would use the toothstick, then hand it to me to wash. I would start by using it on my own teeth first, then wash it and give it back to him."

[Hasan] Bayhaqi narrated it in 1/39 from the hadith of Abu Dawud through the same chain, and Nawawi graded it hasan in Majmu, 1/283.
