My house was the tallest of the houses around the mosque, and Bilal used to give the call to the dawn prayer from atop it. He would come at the last part of the night and sit on the roof watching for the break of dawn. When he saw it, he would stretch and then say, "Allah, I praise You and seek Your help concerning Quraysh, that they may establish Your religion." Then he would give the call to prayer.She said, "By Allah, I do not know of him leaving these words off for a single night."
حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن أيوب حدثنا إبراهيم بن سعد عن محمد بن إسحق عن محمد بن جعفر بن الزبير عن عروة بن الزبير
كان بيتي من أطول بيت حول المسجد وكان بلال يؤذن عليه الفجر فيأتي بسحر فيجلس على البيت ينظر إلى الفجر فإذا رآه تمطى ثم قال اللهم إني أحمدك وأستعينك على قريش أن يقيموا دينك قالت ثم يؤذن قالت والله ما علمته كان تركها ليلة واحدة تعني هذه الكلمات
[Hasan] Bayhaqi narrated it, 1/425, from the hadith of Abu Dawud, through the same chain. Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar explicitly stated that he heard it directly, in Sirah by Ibn Hisham, 2/156 (in my edition), and Hafiz said in Diraya (1/120), "Its isnad is hasan."
