The Prophet ﷺ wrote to Heraclius, "From Muhammad, Messenger of Allah, to Heraclius, the great one of the Romans. Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance."Ibn Yahya reported from Ibn Abbas that Abu Sufyan informed him, saying, "We entered upon Heraclius, and he seated us before him. Then he called for the letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it read, 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, Messenger of Allah, to Heraclius, the great one of the Romans. Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance. To proceed...'"
حدثنا الحسن بن علي ومحمد بن يحيى قالا حدثنا عبد الرزاق عن معمر عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة
أن النبي ﷺ كتب إلى هرقل من محمد رسول الله إلى هرقل عظيم الروم سلام على من اتبع الهدى قال ابن يحيى عن ابن عباس أن أبا سفيان أخبره قال فدخلنا على هرقل فأجلسنا بين يديه ثم دعا بكتاب رسول الله ﷺ فإذا فيه بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم من محمد رسول الله إلى هرقل عظيم الروم سلام على من اتبع الهدى أما بعد
Muslim recorded it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions, Chapter on the Prophet's ﷺ letter to Heraclius, King of Syria, calling him to Islam, hadith 1773, from the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq. Bukhari also recorded it, hadith 7, from the hadith of Zuhri, with the same wording.
