The Prophet ﷺ had in mind several ideas regarding the call to prayer, but he did not act upon any of them. Then Abdullah bin Zayd was shown the call to prayer in a dream. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of it.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Teach it to Bilal."So he taught it to Bilal, and Bilal called the prayer.Abdullah said, "I am the one who saw it, and I was the one who wanted it."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Then you give the iqamah."

[Its chain is daif]. Ahmad narrated it (4/42) from the hadith of Muhammad bin Amr, transmitted through him, though there is disagreement about identifying him, so the chain is daif. It has a corroborating witness in Bayhaqi (1/399) with a daif chain.Bayhaqi also narrated with a sahih chain from Abdul-Aziz bin Rafi, who said, "I saw Abu Mahzurah come after someone else had already given the call to prayer, so he gave the call to prayer himself and then gave the call to begin the prayer." Bayhaqi said, "Its chain is sahih."
