Abu Ward reported,

Ali said to Ibn Abad, "Shall I not tell you about myself and Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? She was the dearest of his family to him, and she was my wife. She ground grain with the millstone until it left marks on her hands, she carried water in the waterskin until it left marks on her chest, she swept the house until her clothes became dusty, and she lit the fire under the cooking pot until her clothes became blackened with smoke. All of this took a toll on her.We heard that some captives had been brought to the Prophet ﷺ, so I said to her, 'Why don't you go to your father and ask him for a servant to spare you this hardship?'She went to him but found people in conversation with him, so she felt too shy and returned home.The next morning, he came to us while we were under our covering. He sat down by her head, and she pulled her head under the covering out of shyness before her father.He asked, 'What was it you needed yesterday from the family of Muhammad?'She remained silent, twice.I said, 'By Allah, I will tell you, Messenger of Allah. This woman has ground grain with the millstone for me until it left marks on her hands, she has carried water in the waterskin until it left marks on her chest, she has swept the house until her clothes became dusty, and she has lit the fire under the cooking pot until her clothes became blackened with smoke. Then word reached us that some captives, or servants, had come to you, so I told her to ask you for a servant.'"He then mentioned the meaning of the hadith of Hakam, and his version was more complete.

عن أبي الورد بن ثمامة قال

قال علي لابن أعبد ألا أحدثك عني وعن فاطمة بنت رسول الله ﷺ وكانت أحب أهله إليه وكانت عندي فجرت بالرحى حتى أثرت بيدها واستقت بالقربة حتى أثرت في نحرها وقمت البيت حتى اغبرت ثيابها وأوقدت القدر حتى دكنت ثيابها وأصابها من ذلك ضر فسمعنا أن رقيقا أتي بهم إلى النبي ﷺ فقلت لو أتيت أباك فسألتيه خادما يكفيك فأتته فوجدت عنده حداثا فاستحيت فرجعت فغدا علينا ونحن في لفاعنا فجلس عند رأسها فأدخلت رأسها في اللفاع حياء من أبيها فقال ما كان حاجتك أمس إلى آل محمد فسكتت مرتين فقلت أنا والله أحدثك يا رسول الله إن هذه جرت عندي بالرحى حتى أثرت في يدها واستقت بالقربة حتى أثرت في نحرها وكسحت البيت حتى اغبرت ثيابها وأوقدت القدر حتى دكنت ثيابها وبلغنا أنه قد أتاك رقيق أو خدم فقلت لها سليه خادما فذكر معنى حديث الحكم وأتم
