He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "None of you should take his brother's belongings, neither in jest nor in earnest." Sulayman's wording was, "neither in play nor in seriousness." "And whoever takes his brother's stick must return it."Ibn Bashshar did not say "Ibn Yazid," and he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا يحيى عن ابن أبي ذئب ح و حدثنا سليمان بن عبد الرحمن الدمشقي حدثنا شعيب بن إسحق عن ابن أبي ذئب
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا يأخذن أحدكم متاع أخيه لاعبا ولا جادا وقال سليمان لعبا ولا جدا ومن أخذ عصا أخيه فليردها لم يقل ابن بشار ابن يزيد وقال قال رسول الله ﷺ
[Its chain of transmission is sahih]. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Fitnah, chapter titled "It is not permissible for a Muslim to frighten a Muslim," no. 2160, from Muhammad bin Bashshar with this wording, and he said, "Hasan gharib."
