I used to ask about the meaning of seeking redress, regarding the verse "And whoever defends himself after being wronged, there is no blame upon them" [Shura 42:41]. Ali bin Zayd bin Judaan narrated to me from Umm Muhammad, the wife of his father. Ibn Awn said, "They claimed that she used to visit Umm Muiminin."She said, Umm Muiminin reported, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to see us while Zaynab bint Jahsh was with us. He began doing something with his hand, so I held his hand back until I made him aware of her presence, and he stopped. Then Zaynab began to provoke Ayesha , and he forbade her, but she refused to stop. So he said to Ayesha, 'Answer her back.' So she answered her back and overcame her.Zaynab then went to Ali
and said, 'Ayesha
insulted you all and did such and such.'Then Fatimah came, and he said to her, 'She is your father's beloved, by the Lord of the Kaabah.' So she left and said to them, 'I told him such and such, and he said to me such and such.'"She said, Ali
then came to the Prophet ﷺ and spoke to him about the matter.
