While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with his companions, a man insulted Abu Bakr and hurt him. Abu Bakr remained silent. Then the man insulted him a second time, and Abu Bakr again remained silent. Then he insulted him a third time, and Abu Bakr responded back to defend himself. At that point, the Messenger of Allah stood up to leave.Abu Bakr said, "Are you displeased with me, Messenger of Allah?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "An angel had descended from heaven, refuting what the man was saying to you. But when you responded back, Satan took his place, and I would not sit where Satan is present."
