The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a man commits adultery, faith departs from him and hovers over him like a canopy. When he ceases, faith returns to him."
حدثنا إسحق بن سويد الرملي حدثنا ابن أبي مريم أخبرنا نافع يعني ابن زيد قال حدثني ابن الهاد أن سعيد بن أبي سعيد المقبري حدثه أنه سمع
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا زنى الرجل خرج منه الإيمان كان عليه كالظلة فإذا انقطع رجع إليه الإيمان
[Its isnad is sahih]. Ibn Manda narrated it in al-Iman, no. 519, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Maryam, through this same route, and Hakim graded it sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, 1/22, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
