Jabir reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A righteous man saw in a dream tonight that Abu Bakr was attached to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Umar was attached to Abu Bakr, and Uthman was attached to Umar."Jabir said, "When we got up from the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we said, 'As for the righteous man, he is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself, and as for their being attached to one another, they are the ones who will succeed to this affair with which Allah sent His Prophet ﷺ.'"
حدثنا عمرو بن عثمان حدثنا محمد بن حرب عن الزبيدي عن ابن شهاب عن عمرو بن أبان بن عثمان
أنه كان يحدث أن رسول الله ﷺ قال أري الليلة رجل صالح أن أبا بكر نيط برسول الله ﷺ ونيط عمر بأبي بكر ونيط عثمان بعمر قال جابر فلما قمنا من عند رسول الله ﷺ قلنا أما الرجل الصالح فرسول الله ﷺ وأما تنوط بعضهم ببعض فهم ولاة هذا الأمر الذي بعث الله به نبيه ﷺ
[Its isnad is daif. Ahmad narrated it, 3/355, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Harb through this route, and graded it sahih. Hakim, 1/3, 72, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Zuhri narrated it using "an", indicating a possible break in the chain.] It has a daif corroborating narration mentioned previously, hadith no. 4634.
