I asked Ibn Umar about the pebbles in the mosque, and he said, "It rained on us one night, and by morning the ground was muddy. So a man began bringing pebbles in his garment and spreading them out beneath himself. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he said, 'How fine this is!'"
حدثنا سهل بن تمام بن بزيع حدثنا عمر بن سليم الباهلي
سألت ابن عمر عن الحصى الذي في المسجد فقال مطرنا ذات ليلة فأصبحت الأرض مبتلة فجعل الرجل يأتي بالحصى في ثوبه فيبسطه تحته فلما قضى رسول الله ﷺ الصلاة قال ما أحسن هذا

[Its chain is daif] Bayhaqi narrated it, 2/440, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 1298. Ibn Turkmani relayed from Ibn Qattan (Fasi), from Ibn Jarud, the following text, "Amr bin Sulaym did not hear it from Walid, so the chain has a hidden defect."
