A group of men from his people set out to Khaybar and dispersed there. They found one of their companions killed, so they said to those near whom they had found him, "You have killed our companion."They replied, "We did not kill him, nor do we know who did."So we set off to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ. He said to them, "Bring me proof of who killed this man."They said, "We have no proof."He said, "Then let them swear an oath for you."They said, "We will not be satisfied with the oaths of the Jews."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ disliked letting his blood go in vain, so he paid his blood-money of one hundred camels from the charity camels.
حدثنا الحسن بن محمد بن الصباح الزعفراني حدثنا أبو نعيم حدثنا سعيد بن عبيد الطائي عن بشير بن يسار زعم أن رجلا من الأنصار يقال له
أن نفرا من قومه انطلقوا إلى خيبر فتفرقوا فيها فوجدوا أحدهم قتيلا فقالوا للذين وجدوه عندهم قتلتم صاحبنا فقالوا ما قتلناه ولا علمنا قاتلا فانطلقنا إلى نبي الله ﷺ قال فقال لهم تأتوني بالبينة على من قتل هذا قالوا ما لنا بينة قال فيحلفون لكم قالوا لا نرضى بأيمان اليهود فكره نبي الله ﷺ أن يبطل دمه فوداه مائة من إبل الصدقة
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Blood Money, Chapter on Qasamah, hadith 6898, from Abu Naeem Fadl bin Dukayn, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Qasamah, hadith 5/1669, from the hadith of Saeed bin Ubayd Tai in the same manner. A portion of it has already appeared at 1638.
