The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If he becomes intoxicated, flog him. If he becomes intoxicated again, flog him. If he becomes intoxicated again, flog him. If he returns to it a fourth time, then kill him."
حدثنا نصر بن عاصم الأنطاكي حدثنا يزيد بن هارون الواسطي حدثنا ابن أبي ذئب عن الحارث بن عبد الرحمن عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا سكر فاجلدوه ثم إن سكر فاجلدوه ثم إن سكر فاجلدوه فإن عاد الرابعة فاقتلوه
[Its chain is sahih]. Ibn Majah related it in the Hudud chapter, in the section on one who drinks wine repeatedly, hadith 2572, and Nasai, hadith 5665, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Dhib, through this route. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith 831, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith 1517, and Hakim said it meets the criterion of Muslim, 4/371, and Dhahabi agreed with him that it meets the criterion of the two Shaykhs.The hadith of Umar bin Abu Salama was related by Ahmad, 2/519, with a hasan chain, and the hadith of Suhayl was graded sahih by Hakim, 4/371-372, and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith of Ibn Abu Nuaym was related by Nasai in Sunan al-Kubra, and the hadith of Abdullah bin Amr was related by Hakim, 4/372, and the hadith of Jadali was related by Ahmad, 4/93.
