We, the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, used to say that if Ghamidiyyah and Maez bin Malik had withdrawn their confessions, or he said, had they not returned after their confessions, he would not have pursued them. He only had them stoned after the fourth confession.

كنا أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ نتحدث أن الغامدية وماعز بن مالك لو رجعا بعد اعترافهما أو قال لو لم يرجعا بعد اعترافهما لم يطلبهما وإنما رجمهما عند الرابعة
[Its isnad is hasan] Nasai narrated it in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 7167, from the hadith of Bashir bin Muhajir, and he is hasan al-hadith.
