Ubada bin Samit reported,

This hadith was narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, and some people said to Saad bin Ubada, "Abu Thabit, the prescribed punishments have been revealed. If you found a man with your wife, what would you do?"He replied, "I would strike them both with the sword until they fell silent. Am I supposed to go and gather four witnesses? By the time I did that, he would have finished what he came for."So they went and gathered before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, have you not heard what Abu Thabit said? He said such and such."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sword is a sufficient witness." Then he said, "No, no, I fear that the drunkard and the jealous one would follow this course."

عن عبادة بن الصامت

عن النبي ﷺ بهذا الحديث فقال ناس لسعد بن عبادة يا أبا ثابت قد نزلت الحدود لو أنك وجدت مع امرأتك رجلا كيف كنت صانعا قال كنت ضاربهما بالسيف حتى يسكتا أفأنا أذهب فأجمع أربعة شهداء فإلى ذلك قد قضى الحاجة فانطلقوا فاجتمعوا عند رسول الله ﷺ فقالوا يا رسول الله ألم تر إلى أبي ثابت قال كذا وكذا فقال رسول الله ﷺ كفى بالسيف شاهدا ثم قال لا لا أخاف أن يتتابع فيها السكران والغيران
