The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut off the hand of a thief for stealing a shield worth three dirhams.
حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة حدثنا مالك عن نافع
أن رسول الله ﷺ قطع في مجن ثمنه ثلاثة دراهم
Bukhari transmitted it in the Book of Punishments, chapter, "The saying of Allah Most High, 'As for the thief, male or female, cut off their hands'... etc.," hadith no. 6795, and Muslim in the Book of Punishments, chapter on the punishment for theft and its threshold, hadith no. 1686, from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is found in Muwatta (Yahya narration) 2/831.
