He said, We came to al-Yashkuri with a group from Banu Layth. He asked, "Who are these people?"We replied, "We are Banu Layth. We have come to ask you about the hadith of Hudhayfah."He then mentioned the hadith. Hudhayfah said, I asked, "Messenger of Allah, will there be evil after this good?"He replied, "Tribulation and evil."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, will there be good after this evil?"He said, "Hudhayfah, learn the Book of Allah and follow what is in it," repeating it three times.I asked, "Messenger of Allah, will there be good after this evil?"He said, "A truce upon smoldering resentment, and a community upon impurities within it," or "within them."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is a truce upon smoldering resentment?"He said, "The hearts of certain people will not return to what they once were."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, will there be evil after this good?"He said, "A blind, deaf tribulation, with callers at the gates of Hell summoning people to it. Hudhayfah, if you die clinging to the stump of a tree, that would be better for you than following any of them."
